A migrant worker's life
Between Tulza and Novo mesto is a photo series about migrant workers in the town of Novo mesto, Slovenia. It showcases the life and work of migrants coming mainly from Tuzla, Bosnia and other Balkan as well as Eastern-bloc countries like Ukraine.
They work construction and other jobs involving intense physical labour and spend their most of their free time cooking and conversing at their temporary home - the workers' home.
Most of them have families back home and their work in Novo mesto helps their loved ones survive as wages are sent home, and those that hail from the Bosnia return to their wives and children almost every weekend, sharing the car fare.
Their motive for coming here is one shared by all migrant workers across the world- no jobs and poor working conditions back home and the search of a better life for themselves and their family, however some that come here are luckier than others, as their fate depends upon the honesty of the employer to provide payment for insurance and retirement benefits as well as a living wage.
